30-Day Hair Challenge

30-Day Hair Challenge

If you’ve been following along on social media (obviously) you’ll know that for the past month, I’ve been participating in a self-induced 30 day hair challenge thanks to the legendary French beauty brand, Dessange. The premise of the challenge is to stay away from the salon for as long as possible (I haven’t retouched my balayage since August) without the dreaded brassiness most unnatural blondes tend to develop over time and especially with extended exposure to sun, chlorine, the elements and ill-equipped hair products.

To help me stay as ashy as possible, I switched up my at-home haircare to the Dessange California Blonde routine. My colourist actually told me to push back my next touchup appointment because my hair needed a longer break in between visits this time, so this challenge came at the perfect time. At first I was a bit worried about the impending brassiness that my hair tends to love to turn but after using the Dessange products I feel totally at ease about skipping my next hair appointment.

In fact, after only one application of the California Blonde Brass Correcting Crème, which uses blue pigments to neutralize the hair tone, I could see a drastic difference in my hair colour. I found myself admiring my hair in the elevator mirror like, holy smokes, that is WHITE.

Which is amazing because you should only be using the Correcting Crème once a week or every other shampoo – and I can say from experience that’s more than enough toning, even on a balayage that is – wait how many months was it? Three months old? Quite impressive. The shampoo and conditioner use flower oil and pearl extract to nourish the hair, and compliment the corrector for a total blonde therapy session.

But perhaps what I love the most coming out of my 30-day challenge (and I’m obviously going to continue using) is the price of the products. The Brass Correcting Crème is only $14.99, and available at Shoppers Drug Mart. If you only knew what I’ve paid for other purple shampoos and such, you’d laugh at me. Dessange has managed to find a balance between salon quality and affordability – and I love that the products actually work. I tried it, I loved it. Pass it on.
