Art Basel with Persol Cellor

Art Basel with Persol Cellor

If you’re going to do Art Basel in style, you’ve got to do it the Persol way. What is arguably the most luxurious name in eyewear, the Persol Cellor folding sunglasses and eyeglasses are synonymous with innovation and elegance, and we experienced exactly what that means during our time with the brand in Miami. Whether cruising around islands in a yacht or dancing until dawn at Miami’s hottest nightclub, our Persol Cellors were the perfect accessories to complete our VIP experience.

I’ve been a fan of Persol ever since I saw Steve McQueen wear them in The Thomas Crown Affair – so chic. Something about the brand just exudes style, in an classic way, so much so that the iconic Cellor model was actually invented 60 years ago and reinterpreted last year. It’s no small feat to withstand the test of time and changing trends, yet the shape and folding design of the Persol Cellor glasses are still a token of coolness amongst the fashion set. I mean, everyone needs to own a pair of Persols at one point or another in their lifetime.

Not to mention, Persol was founded in Turin in 1917, and all the eyewear is made in Italy using only the finest materials. The word Cellor derives from cellulose and gold, the two materials used to make the folding sunnies when they were first created. In my opinion, I love anything with a rich Italian heritage and handcrafted – it’s so dolce vita. I tried my very best to channel Monica Vitti on a yacht somewhere in the Mediterranean wearing my La Perla (also Italian) swimsuit and Persol Cellor crystal icons in black and grey.

Seeing Art Basel through my Persol Cellor lenses will go down as an unforgettable recherché moment in my travel diary. Not only did we go yachting on an 80-foot Azimut, we dined at some of Miami’s most exclusive book-your-reso-20-years-in-advance restaurants. We rubbed shoulders with Katie Holmes and Lenny Kravitz at Mr. Chow followed by bottle service at LIV in the Fontaine Bleue, where we danced all night, only to have a private dining room at Prime 112 (Miami’s hottest steakhouse) the following evening. Filet mignon, wine and a table setting of orchids surrounded by Persol Cellor eyewear – how decadent! I’m almost sad to return to my apartment in cold Toronto, but at least I have my Persol Cellors with me and can relive the Miami extravagance every time I wear them.
