Wanna know how to get your best brows ever? Well, lucky for you our beauty editor, Janelle, is spilling all her secrets today:
I am so happy that big fluffy brows are in, and from the looks of it, it seems like they’re here to stay.
Reasons why I love this trend:
- We no longer have to worry about plucking, shaping and/or fussing over stray hairs
- It’s a fact, full brows shape our face and add a certain finishing touch to our look
- They attract attention to the eyes, and by default, the often overlooked, beautiful forehead
- Even if you mess up filling in the brows, it doesn’t really matter they still look good and “unruly natural”
Benefit Ka-Brow Gel
So, now that you know why I love this trend, it’s time to talk about the products that make your best brows ever, truly possible. First I’ll start with Benefit Ka-Brow gel, this nifty little packaging is sweet to look at, and also handy to use. All you do is pop off the extendable built-in brush, turn it around and snap it into the cap. I love this feature because you don’t have to worry about forgetting your eyebrow brush behind (however I do wish there was a spoolie attached to it as well). The angled brush makes it easy to see where your brows need to be filled in, arched and tailed off. The tip of the brush is small enough to define brows, and it’s easy to build up the product should you want your brows to WOW.
I say it is super important to brush out the product with a spoolie (or a clean mascara wand) because this helps to spread the product evenly through the brows, and softens the product so your brows don’t look harsh. The product says it’s waterproof and lasts 24 hours. I’ve tested this. It is somewhat waterproof, as in it doesn’t streak down my face when I’m in the pool, and it doesn’t sweat off. I’d say it lasts long enough, and can take me from morning to evening, but I have notice it start to fade throughout the day; not by much, but enough for me to notice. Overall I rate this 3 stars out of 5 and I wish it came in more than just six shades.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade
Let’s talk about Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow pomade, AKA dream-cream. It seems beauty bloggers everywhere are comparing these two products, and for good reason, too. Both claim to be waterproof, smudge free, easy to apply and buildable. But really, which one is better?
For one, Anastasia is a little less expensive, and contains a bit more product; it also comes in way more shades than Benefit (Benefit 6, Anastasia 11). It doesn’t come with a built-in brush, but I prefer a full-sized brow brush anyway. As far as the actual product goes, I found Anastasia to be a lot more fluid, and easy to use. Compared with Benefit, it seems that the consistency in Ka-Brow is harder, and doesn’t glide on as nicely. Anastasia lasts all day (and night, and morning after). I’ve even accidentally fallen asleep with it still on, and noticed that it didn’t smudge or transfer on my pillow. I rate Anastasia 4.5 out 5 beautiful bushy stars.
Final thoughts, both products are good, both claim to do what they say, however I believe Anastasia is just a better product overall. I like that it comes in so many shades, and I like that it has more product and is not as expensive. My pot of Anastasia last me for about six months, whereas my Ka-Brow pot lasted about two, almost three months. I find Ka-brow to be good if you already have eyebrows, and just need to fill them in a little more for that extra oomph. But Anastasia is good for painting on brows and creating a full illusion of brows, from sparse barely-there hairs. That being said, when it comes to repurchasing a product, I would have to say I would choose Anastasia over Ka-Brow for your best brows ever.
NARS Brow Defining Cream
Justine chiming in here! I spent some time using the new NARS Brow Defining Cream over the weekend and I’m here to report my thoughts on it. I, too, wish there were more than 4 shades, as I found myself having to mix both warm and cooler browns to really pinpoint the colour I wanted. NB: Invest in the Angled Eyeliner Brush #47 to use with both the brow cream AND if you wanna do eyeliner using an eyeshadow for a softer look.
What I love about this cream is that it’s not really a cream – it’s more like a cream/powder. It isn’t greasy or slimy. It’s got great pigmentation and so easy to apply. It glides really well and makes it super easy to define the brow shape. Now, I have microblading done so it is just a matter of filling in the colour to something stronger – but sometimes I like to make my brows even more bushy, and this was great at helping me achieve a natural-looking cheat. Best part? It lasts so long. It’s still on my brows the next morning, even after I’ve taken my face wipes to them.
