When I first described these sunglasses, I quoted F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “honey blue of the Mediterranean” – the unforgettable colour of the sky in New York the moment Nick Carraway regains lucidity and remembers it’s his birthday. As synaesthetic experiences go, it’s not just a colour, it’s a feeling. Makes sense that Etnia Barcelona would coin their blue-coloured glasses “Klein blue”, after 20th century painter, Yves Klein, whose anthropometric paintings in monochrome blue are so breathtaking, we feel them.
You’ve seen this colour before, but this is the first time the Yves Klein Archives has authorized a brand to use the Klein Blue colour patented by Yves himself – making these sunnies oh-so esoteric, only the jet-set are worthy. (Anna dello Russo’s snubbed nose is a prime candidate.)
In the spirit of rarified references, my look was inspired by Missoni’s Fall ’09 hippie-meets-hip-hop collection. That season debuted the double scarf look, which never quite gained any real currency in the fashion industry until the polar vortex, 5 years later. In attempting to pick which scarf would suit this outfit better I said: EFF it, I’m pulling a Missoni and wearing both! My neckline – and my immune system – have never been happier.
We’ve got a few more days left of dismal temperatures, will you be double-scarfing it until we hit zero?
