It’s essentially a Dior sandwich for the win this couture season. It’s still Winter on the fashion calendar; the page flips in September when the climate says it’s time to hibernate and Anna Wintour defiantly declares: “No, boo boo, it’s Spring!”

All the more reason to longingly admire the couture outerwear before it’s short skirts, shorts and shades. Runners up include a cheetah print overcoat with exaggerated bolero-like fur sleeves from the latest industry resurrection, Schiaparelli. (Fashion brings back more of the dead than the Catholic church!) And tweed perfecto jackets perfected by Bouchra Jarrar. I also loved some cropped fur from Versace – but who doesn’t love cropped fur?

No, the real stars were Raf Simons’ longer than life coats in dark blue and black, and fur, with an honourable mention by Russian street style star-cum-couturier, Ulyana Sergeenko. If Elsa Schiaparelli dabbled in surrealism and disproportioned silhouettes, then Sergeenko’s lilac purple, one-sided fur collar may have accidentally walked the wrong show. The goal here is to emulate the couture by choosing floor-length, slim coats with asymmetric collars, belts and/or sleeves. Fur details are always welcome (and no, I don’t mean the exiguous fur hood).
