My Style | April Showers

My Style | April Showers

As the saying goes, April showers bring May flowers – but not if you live in Toronto. It’s usually more showers in May, June, July and August on this side of the pond. It is indeed, another wet summer. Long live rainwear, then. (And Keratin hair treatments: a real girl’s answer to rain.)

Like my involvement in the Ugg trend – about 5 years too late – I was equally slow to jump on the Wellie Express. This was facilitated in part by a pair of argyle-printed Pucci rain boots who had overstayed their welcome in my closet, and thus ensured that Hunter boots stayed off my must-have list. Until this Fall, however.

I peeped the rag & bone x Hunter collaboration boot-ay on TNT’s instagram in September. Since I had planned on visiting Vancouver (more rain) in January, I justified updating my rainwear game from Arlecchino to Kate Moss. Bye-bye argyle, hello navy and black colourblocking.

And I didn’t stop at autumn. I got a pair of Hunter socks and wore them all through winter. As much as they saved me from my Uggs during the polar vortex, there’s nothing like wearing a fresh pair of Hunter boots in the spring. That sweet delight was all mine last week as Mother Nature served up cloudy with a chance of style.

Possibly the hardest shoot Alex and I have attempted thus far (and the rain was kinda shitty, too). I was relentless in obtaining the perfect rainy day outfit pictures and insisted we continue even when Zeus would have probably threw in the towel. The Hunter Original smock repelled water like it was the plague, I actually think the raindrops changed direction when approaching my forcefield. I’m thinking The Matrix bullet-dodging scene in slow motion.

If you’re going to splurge on anything this spring, make sure it is a pair of Original Contrast rain boots. Keeping on the theme of colourblocking, which unlike the peplum trend, I don’t wait with bated breath for it to die; I loved the all-white pair with black and peach contrast. They are the necessary accompaniment to blue jeans and would probably look even better with bare legs. But, we’ll leave that to the campaign models.
