My Style | Off-Duty-ing

“Model Off-Duty” is more than just a street style trope, it’s a way of life. What started off as the mass exodus of models backstage at fashion week, running from one catwalk to the next, has now spawned an entire breed of men and women who aim tirelessly to look like Alexa Chung in sweatpants and wedged sneakers, Chanel boy bag across the body.

The key to pulling off the M.O.D. look is layering. The more the merrier. Layer a t-shirt with a light knit sweater, then add a hoodie and vest or perfecto jacket, and a blanket scarf. Pants/bottoms are always sparse: see shorts or skinny jeans. Footwear is always incongruous; pairing utility boots with leggings or high heels with sweatpants or better yet, sneakers with a tuxedo pant. Next: hair and makeup must be from the show (meaning, always extra), and when in doubt, sunglasses and a duffle bag will charm any Scott Schuman, any day. I must say I’m happy I resurrected my white (well, was once white) leather Mackage blazer for this outfit. So, what do you guys think? Is that me or Gisele?
