My Style | Dreaming of Spring

Johnston & Murphy Sonya Slide // Everlane t-shirt // Paige jeans // Etnia Barcelona sunglasses // Johnston & Murphy Draped-Front Suede Jacket // PANDORA jewellery

To inaugurate above zero weather in Toronto these days, I’ve put together a very spring outfit that I hope to wear sometime soon. Perhaps this weekend? Toes crossed! (Yes, like the very coral red ones you see peeping out from my new Johnston & Murphy Sonya Slides).

Ever since runway brands have reinvented the classic slider sandal, it’s all I can ever think about when deciding what to pair with an almost-spring outfit. Long white t-shirt and ripped jeans? Slider sandal. White jeans and a suede jacket? Slider sandal. Leggings and a big comfy hoodie? You guessed it, slider sandals. They go with just about everything without screaming premature beachwear like their younger cousin, the flip-flop.

What I love about this ensemble, if I can toot my own horn here, is that it doesn’t veer too much into that other fast-approaching season: summer. I think a lot of women make the mistake of swapping out their winter wardrobe for summer pieces right away without ever considering the beauty of the in-between. Sure, it can seem extravagant to shop for a season that goes by in the blink of an eye, but in actuality, spring can be filled with womens-wear classics. Johnston & Murphy, for example, does spring classics really well so you can update your wardrobe without having to subscribe to fleeting trends.

Something as classic as the spring suede jacket can be reinvented over and over even if it is a garment with a very short lifespan, meaning you only get to wear it for about one month out of the year, but it’s a chance no self-respecting woman should let pass her by. Sure, you could continue to wear your winter coat into May – in theory – but when you lock eyes with a blush pink, Draped-Front Suede Jacket like this one also from Johnston & Murphy, it is hard not to make a case for layering.

Just waiting on you, Mother Nature. Waiting on you…
