Being stuck in the city during summertime isn’t as bad as you’d think. Toronto boasts some of the best rooftop pools and manmade beaches on the east coast. Sure, it’s not the Hamptons or Abu Dhabi, but for us Canadians in lieu of spending the weekend at grandma’s 8,000 sq. ft. cottage on Lake Rosseau, it will certainly do.
I’m wearing my uber-comfortable Edith A. Miller cotton dress – I bought it in January in Vancouver and have been saving it in my closet for months! I envisioned it with a pair of crisp white Converse sneakers, which at the time I didn’t own, but a trip to my local sneaker shop proved fruitful. No shoestrings, no problem. The look is very Upper East Side even if I don’t have the bank account or polo club membership to match. I swear, I’ve been permanently damaged by the upper-echelon-aspiration tropes found in Woody Allen movies.
Anyone can wear Edith A. Miller, as the brand is relatively affordable and the cotton is super soft, milled in Pennsylvania since the 1920s. (The fashion label as we know it today has a very interesting history, read about that here). You can find it at your local J.Crew – but I wish they’d hurry up with their website! Seriously though, if you like bagels with cream cheese and stripes, Edith A. Miller has a shirt for you.
