NYFW | Cowgirls & Cloud Stompers

NYFW | Cowgirls & Cloud Stompers

Day 2 has come and gone. So far I’ve managed to watch the Opening Ceremonies, twice, get a free Starbucks coffee sent to me via Twitter and go through all the runway shows – all from the comfort of my little couch. Not to mention I’m nursing a sinus infection and have a mountain of used Kleenexes adorning me like tanned servants feeding me grapes in the moonlight.

Again, Day 2. I’m rushing up to the cottage (glamping) so I’ll make it quick:

Rebecca Minkoff – forget the bags, focus on the outerwear. She started her career in accessories but she should really move up here to Canada and furnish me with wool coats. All of them furry, to be exact.

Cloud Stompers was the title of the runway show by Australian swimwear brand, Zimmermann. By the way, I have no idea what a cloud stomper is – if that makes me less cool so be it. (And trust me, I tried Googling it. All I got was the rap lyric: “trust me, I’m a fucking cloud stomper”). Have you ever been to Zimmermann’s Soho boutique? It’s like walking into a fairytale land of muted florals and terrycloth – even in the dead of winter. I wasn’t at the show (ahem) but I could very well hear Lana del Rey’s Summer Wine playing as these ladies moseyed down the runway.

The girl in the black hat? She’s Cushnie et Ochs and she drank the summer wine yes she did. I mean that dress? That’s the best thing to come out of New York since Thursday. Bravo!

Lastly, Tanya Taylor really proved that she has what it takes to play ball. Her prints were varied and cohesive; smart tailoring hit all the right places. Prints did not detract from the overall aesthetic, which I thought was playful sophistication. This is definitely a collection worth looking at twice – unlike the Opening Ceremonies.
