If memory serves me correct, which it usually doesn’t, but anyway, I think it was in fifth grade when palazzo pants made their debut in my closet. I used to wear them with Mary Janes and thick, itchy knit sweaters my grandma would bring me back from Italy with little mice embroidered on them. Did I mention my accessories were rainbow-rimmed glasses and a gap-tooth? Man, I was the coolest girl at the spelling bee that year.
A lot has changed since my geek-to-chic Jenny Jones transformation (and two years of braces) but palazzo pants have pretty much remained the same, albeit kept under wraps until someone unearthed these lovely, comfortable anti-jeggings and said: “All hail the wide-leg pant!” Not sure who that was, but my hips and butt thank you.
This year, I picked my palazzos with elephants on them and paired them with a bikini top on the beach. They are so cozy; you can do high-kicks in them and keep your modesty intact. So, how do you wear palazzo pants in 2014? Just how you would wear a maxi skirt. If solid colours are more your speed, I would choose a pair with vertical pleats running down the front just to elongate the leg and give you a more slender appearance.
