Craftsmanship. This is sometimes a lost word in the ready-to-wear sphere but it regains full meaning where Mikhael Kale is concerned. His beadwork is akin to couture. The appliqués range from cute to contradictory, one adorns a dress like a would-be peplum. Building on his sweet spot from last season – negative space – Kale continues to subtract from his garments as much as he adds to them. There is an equilibrium established between the cutouts and the embellishments, and it’s something Mikhael Kale is becoming respected for. Well, that and his first name jackets as seen on Gigi Hadid and last night, on Sylvia Mantella (his muse and patron saint). What’s not to love about Mikhael Kale? Absolutely nothing.
