Fashion Week | The Cookie Monster Coat

Fashion Week | The Cookie Monster Coat

What started off as a onetime Instagram jest has turned into the overarching trend for Fall ’14 everywhere. We all know him as the Chips Ahoy-garburator in periwinkle blue, a lifelong friend of any child growing up in the 80s. The Cookie Monster: Coming to a runway near you.

It all started with Jenny Packham’s fuzzy fur coat at New York Fashion Week. You had to be nearly blind to miss it. This was unlike the furs of seasons past. This was akin to muppetry. What in god’s name was Jenny thinking?

“Me want cookie,” that’s what.

Across the pond, Frida Giannini prepared her version in a soft blush – presumably the love interest of Packham’s opus. They looked swell together, all heterosexual and such, until Scognamiglio raised them a foxy orange variation. It was then that I caught on; Blumarine further rewarded my libation to the fashion gods with a literal colour-match (that blatantly referenced the Sesame Street thespian himself) and later, Do-na-te-lla threw me a bone in fire engine red. Before Stye.com tries to tell you that the cookie monster coat is a thing, remember you ate it here first! Om nom nom nom nom.

Incidentally, this trend has already been diffused across Walmart’s clothing line, George, as witnessed by yours truly yesterday: pyjama tops and bottoms with the Cookie Monster’s face plastered on them. You’re welcome.
