Four Cities, One Card: Milan

Four Cities, One Card: Milan

Alas, our journey to the world’s fashion capitals has come to an end. Over the past four months, I’ve shown you how to get the most out of your Scotiabank Gold American Express Card when traveling to cities such as Paris, New York, London and now, Milan. With a variety of ways to collect travel rewards you can get to your next destination up to 4xfaster – and I’ll tell you exactly what you should be packing for your upcoming trip to Italy’s fashion mecca.

I’ve saved Milan for last because, being Italian, it is my favourite city on the fashion week circuit and I hope to attend a few shows during Milan Fashion Week in September. I love that I can book my flight using my Scotiabank Gold American Express Card and then just go online to transfer travel rewards from my account to help subsidize my trip, because sometimes you just can’t find flights using other travel points systems so I like having the option to just pay for the flight I want. Especially during fashion week when timing is key!

When you go to Milan, you want to dress to impress. Italians are so effortlessly stylish. I swear, every time I go to Italy I feel embarrassingly underdressed and un-fancy. The essence of being Italian is to live life to the fullest. Even your afternoon coffee in a small bar can be an occasion. Most Italians wouldn’t be caught dead wearing “comfortable” clothes like yoga pants to run errands. Gucci only, please.

My ideal outfit for a day in Milan would be a vintage fur coat, faux or real; a pair of flared jeans; high heels; a silk blouse; a statement bag, statement sunglasses and statement jewelry. When packing for a trip to Italy remember to always infuse some glamour into your wardrobe with high quality pieces. Anything that looks cheap should be left at home. It doesn’t have to be a high fashion label, but stick to fabrics that cost a little extra like leather, fur, silk, linen, and suede. (Or do what I do and buy it all there – I love the little vintage boutiques and family-owned leather shops one finds unassumingly in a little alley way exactly when you need them).

After only a few days in Milan, you’ll quickly grow accustomed to the sweet life. Everything is just so luxuriously sweet and coming back to “reality” can be disenchanting, to say the least. This is where my Priority Pass lounge membership comes in at the airport. Scotiabank Gold American Express cardholders automatically get a discount on the lounge membership, making your time spent at the airport just a bit more comfortable. You can find me in the lounge holding onto the last vestiges of la dolce vita before boarding my plane home.

Luckily, knowing that my Scotiabank Gold American Express Card is in my wallet gives me a sense of attainable luxury every day. It’s my little “secret weapon” that I can use to turn an everyday experience into a jet-set adventure. Want to apply now? Visit www.scotiabank.com/4xfaster

Spot on with this write-up, I seriously believe this amazing site needs far more attention. I’ll probably be back again to read through more, thanks for the advice!

Oh gosh that jacket is 50 shades of fabulous! I love, love, love how you Canadians rock fur with zero shame. I go from tiny VT where people would throw paint at you if you were caught dead with the tiniest fur keychain to Montreal where it’s errrrrrwhere and so beautifully done.

Anywho, I love this series. I need to find the American-version of this card so I can start being both fiscally and flight responsible.

Thanks, Jocellyn! Ah, yes, it’s my aunt’s coat that she graciously gave to me because it doesn’t fit her anymore. I need to get a few repairs done on it! Fur is so warm it is unreal and it is important to be conscious of where your fur is coming from and how the animals are treated. I like recycled fur a lot because it has a story. I think as long as you respect nature and understand that it is FREAKING cold here, so keeping warm with a fur is survival, it’s ok. I wear a lot of faux, too. I’ve only been chastised once or twice by people – no paint, yet! That’s why I wouldn’t buy a new fur. First, I can’t afford it (ha). Second, if I spent 10K on a coat and someone threw paint on it, I think I would die. xoxo J
