My Style | Retiring my High Heels, Hello?

My Style | Retiring my High Heels, Hello?

A few weeks ago, after whimpering home in my YSL Tribtoos I made a pledge to never wear them again. Yeah, so what. They may cause me to foam at the mouth because they’re so pretty but they’re actually silent killers. In fact, I’ve taken to calling them that name. Me: “What shoes should I wear tonight?’ My boyfriend: “How about those beige ones?” Me: “The YSL’s?” My boyfriend: “Oh no! Not the silent killers!” And so on, and so forth.

Maybe it’s my age or maybe it’s the new physics. I just can’t stomach heels anymore. My feet feel like they are trapped in one of Dante’s circles of hell, condemned to have fresh blisters rubbing against hot leather while moving to the beat of an Avicii single until they burst. Oh wait, this was already an SNL skit. How prophetic.

Instead, I have pledged to wear flats. In fact, I’ve been on a flat kick, lately. Taking care to purchase some new styles other than the flip flop, ballet slipper and sneaker (the only type of flats I used to own until I hit the reset button), I’ve actually reaped great pleasure from styling my outfits with flats. And I usually end the evening on both feet with no limp, abrasions or open sores. When was the last time you could say the same, ladies?

My latest addition to the flats collection are these sparkly, studded Enzo Angiolini slippers. I got to shop the Nine West x Style Democracy pre-warehouse sale earlier this week and there were flats on flats on flats! The prices were crazy and the selection was huge. It wasn’t one of those madhouse sales where you’re rummaging through boxes looking for the matching left foot in size 7 to make a pair (although, I did ask to voluntarily hunt through some of the boxes being sorted to find my size in the Enzo Angiolini’s but those are the sort of perks of the blog LYFE). The sale itself was civilized, sorted by size and style.

And like any person with absolutely no willpower ever, I caved and got a pair of heels. However, I might add that the only heels I wear (after retiring the YSL’s) are a pair of black suede Nine West pumps. Here, here and here. So, I knew that I could trust their emerald green d’orsay pump. Plus, how good would they look with a pair of white skinny jeans? C’mon people, C’MON!

Want in on the sale? Head to the International Centre at 6900 Airport Rd this weekend. The sale ends on Sunday, May 25th. Bags, shoes and accessories are 60-80% off (and there’s some Titika yoga apparel, too, for my yogi bears!).
