How to Shop for New Shoes Like a Pro

Ok, I have to make a confession. Over the past few months, I’ve become so addicted to shopping for shoes over everything. If you ever get the chance to go to New York, make sure you visit the shoe salon at Bergdorf Goodman – it’s like being a kid in a candy store. It’s such a treat to shop at Bergdorf Goodman, their selection is unparalleled and I love the luxury shopping experience they offer. The good news? Even if you’re not in New York, you can still shop for shoes just like a pro at www.bergdorfgoodman.com.

When shopping for new shoes this season, it’s important to have a grasp on the key trends for Fall. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll see that I’ve been crushing on shoes with adornment. What’s that mean? Adornments are basically any kind of superfluous hardware or details that add an aesthetic element, but can also be function. Also known as embellishments, shoes get a little less boring with the addition of ribbons, studs, metal hardware, fringe and even, spikes.

Personally, I love me a chunky military boot with a touch of spice. My fave pair this season are the amazing Alexander Wang Lyndon Box Calf Combat boots. I’ve had my eye on them for weeks – and finally, I’ve been able to add them to my ever-growing shoe collection. Guilty as charged. I just can’t stop buying shoes! And the more hardware, like the steel framed toe, the better. I love how they just pop with my outfit.

Whenever you see stylists, bloggers and fashion icons shop for shoes, they have certain style tricks of the trade that they stick to. One of these style secrets is choosing shoes with hardware or embellishments – not only are these shoes more interesting, they also exude luxury (they just look more expensive). It takes a super stylish lady to be able to pull off adorned shoes – so if you’re up for the challenge, I’ve picked out some amazing pairs of shoes that will up your style game this fall.

Love the look and the boots! I don’t look great in sans heel boots that hit mid-shin, so I’ll live vicariously through you.

One of my shoe tips for actually trying one on (once you’ve hunted down the perfect choice) is to go at the end of the day when your feet have had more time to bloat. Not exactly sexy, but better than shopping in the morning when your feet are super skinny.

Oh man, I’m so self-conscious of my ankles and calves… I am very particular about no heel, mid-shin (or lower). I feel you!

Ah, that’s great advice. I should’ve totally included that in the post!!! Thanks for the suggestion! xoxo J
