Jetset Beauty | Spa Week Giveaway

Jetset Beauty | Spa Week Giveaway

It’s that time of the year again, the bi-annual spa week is upon us! From April 21st – 27th, participating spas will be offering their services for a flat rate of $50. Thanks to WaySpa.com, all you need is one gift card to enjoy over 2,000 spas. It’s also perfect for the upcoming Mother’s Day gift in case you have no idea what to get her – every mother, including mine, could use some extra rest and relaxation. I mean, she’s had to put up with you for how many years now?

Or perhaps you’ll keep the gift card to yourself like I did (sorry, Mom). In the spring, our bodies change over kinda like the weather only less irrationally (sorry, Mother Nature). She’s been a real bee eye tea see aitch. Meaning, it’s a great time to #treatyoself. Get your nails did, scrape off the rawhide that’s accumulated on your heels during the winter or let someone else scrape it off for you. I prefer to get a massage – so I booked a deep tissue massage at the Yorkville Beauty Spa.

First of all, this is not a place to judge by it’s appearance. What it lacks in bamboo shelving and marble, it gains in effectiveness. Results. My masseuse, Linda, touched pressure points I didn’t even know existed in my body. Did you know, for example, that you could get tiny little knots all along your hairline on the back of your neck? I didn’t. That is, until Linda started crackle-McCrackling the tiny vertebrae all along my scalp. “Very bad,” was her opening line. I immediately regretted everything I ever did in my life leading up to my meeting with Linda and her hands of steel. Including cheese.

Could a masseuse really make me regret eating dairy? Well, turns out Linda is into the mind-body continuum. Stress is a killer (who am I kidding, it’s my middle name!). The foods we eat release toxins in our bodies and so does stress, we need detox and we also need a deep tissue massage to keep running at optimal capacity. I’m bracing myself for a liver and colon double-whammy cleanse later this month to accompany all of this. I think it will make me a better writer.

As I write this post it’s been exactly 12 hours since my last massage and these are my sins: I ate cheese. But, it’s not all bad. My shoulders and neck are sore, and this is expected when the massage does what it is supposed to do. Results. Linda tells me my body will be in recovery for 2 days. “No working out” and “no dairy”, she cautions. I’ve fulfilled the former – ahem, easier – of the two. No working out, you say? Well, cut me a piece of cheese and spread it on a multigrain cracker!

If  you want to join me in spring cleaning your colon and other organs, or if you just want to go in for a good ole’ fashion mani pedi, enter below to win a $50 gift card for Spa Week. Every treatment is $50 so you can’t lose. Well, unless you eat cheese.

*Contest open to Toronto residents only.
