One, two, three, overalls! Don’t you just love it when runway pieces are made for the runway’s sake? I have mixed feelings about this phenomenon. Namely, when I’m not besties with the designer I can’t schmooze my way into borrowing a runway piece for my own outfit posts – real important stuff – and subsequently be the only person to wear this, that, or the other, made-for-runway extravagance. Such will be the fate of those metallic silver overalls from Rudsak Spring 14, but don’t hate me if they make an appearance on my OOTD. Just saying.
So, all us media chieftains got the same press release about the collection – which is great because I can tell you that exotic skins like croc and python were used for itty bitty shorts and that the iconic perfecto jacket (aka the moto-jacket, aka THE jacket to own in leather) came in a waxed linen and distressed leather combo. And we are all going to tell you that it is the Montreal based brand’s 20 year anniversary and that founder, Evik Asatoorian still feels “the same passion and excitement as I did when I launched the brand.” I mean, you should all know this information, for sure.
But you came here for my opinion, ostensibly, and I won’t disappoint. Here’s why I love Rudsak – because you can buy their jackets at Costco (true story) and their runway show is always breathtaking (even if in the past, half the pieces never got produced), they are getting better! Last Spring I attended their Fall 2013 preview and almost all of the runway pieces had been reworked into the collection including leather, down-filled parkas and trendy motorcycle jackets with fur details in all the right places. Not to mention, their ready-to-wear pieces are the perfect companions to the Rudsak outerwear oeuvre. Their lineup of knits and satin tunics are almost as praiseworthy as their coats.
I always tell my friends who are in search for a new jacket that’s super trendy but with just enough variation so as not to look like they bought it at Aritzia to try Rudsak – and most of the time, I’m absolutely right.
