My Style | If You Liked it Then You Shoulda Put A Toque On It

I’ve developed a real bad habit. Dissatisfied with the clothes hanging on my side of the closet, I’ve begun to encroach on his side of the closet AKA the final frontier (but really should be known as a diamond in the rough). Who knew all these amazing pieces like this shiny puffer jacket was only a finger-walking distance away?

What’s yours is mine, right?

Of course it only takes about eight months of cohabitation to graze the final frontier of every healthy relationship: sharing clothes. For me, true commitment is opening your closets to one another. The day my boyfriend gave me free rein to snoop around his guarded furs, McQueen scarves, pristine sweaters, one-wear leather jackets and coats, I felt like calling my mom and all my girlfriends to tell them. Heck, I almost changed my Facebook status. Here he was, the man of my dreams, getting down on one knee and handing me his Collier de chien bracelet to pair with my YSL Tribtoos.

Alas, I never understood the true meaning of the boyfriend sweater until now. Borrowing from him feels like adding yet another new-and-shiny item to my wardrobe. Like going shopping without the guilt. And although I have yet to discover the beauty of the boyfriend jean – I’m sure that day isn’t too far off, either.

My idea with this particular outfit was to evoke a sense of haphazardness. As though I threw on whatever coat happened to be at the door (it just-so-happened to be his coat) and voilà, I could spend all day galavanting without feeling too put together. Secretly, however, winky-winky, I had girls passing by me like: “How’d she think of that?”

Well, let me tell you: His slightly oversized puffer creates an adorable penguin silhouette. I look smaller, in a munchkin way. Whereas the chunky knit by BAZZUL, an amazing designer label from Toronto, is cropped to remind you that I am still a woman, not an amorphous blob. When I presented this outfit to him that morning (as I’m sure all respectable women do to their partners) he liked it so much, he suggested I put a toque on it.

And that, my friends, is my definition of conjugal bliss.
