Spotlight on the Most Fabulous Fall Trends This Year

This Fall, for me, it’s all about pushing boundaries with my style. My hair is darker, shorter, edgier. My style has subsequently gone through a bit of a facelift as well – and it’s totally needed; I hate getting stuck in ruts and love to change it up. I’m really happy that one of my favourite brands for casual and athletic wear, BENCH, has also pushed the boundaries with their Fall 16 offerings.

I spent some time perusing the BENCH boutique at CF Toronto Eaton Centre just weeks ago, as soon as the Fall 16 items arrived, and picked out my top pieces for the season. I am really digging the new palette for Fall. Keeping on trend with the runways, BENCH has pulled inspiration from more earthy tones like golden bronze, olive green, burgundy and warm pinks.

One of my favourite pieces is the antique bronze oversized jacket. The colour is perfect for Fall and I thought it would be cool to pair it with BENCH’s signature leggings. I cannot get enough of BENCH leggings! I got a pair in burgundy and a pair in a black leopard print. I styled the black leggings with an athleisure look. Ok, the flatform leather shoes might not be the most functional but gosh, I feel so fabulous in them. There’s nothing, absolutely nothing, wrong with wearing fancy shoes and leggings.

BENCH has gorgeous denim dresses, shirts and cute jackets for Fall. What I am totally feeling though is their puffer vests. You can always wear a vest overtop a chunky knit when the weather starts to dip below 20 degrees without admitting that summer’s over. I did a ribbed black sweater with a black puffer vest, and my leopard print black leggings. Mixing textures of the same colour is the perfect way to add dimension to a monochromatic palette, which is a super trend for Fall 16.

So, to get my edgy Fall 16 looks, you’ll need a combat-utility coat and a puffer vest. I love those two options for outerwear. Next, I would add an interesting printed legging and pair them with chunky boots or sandals, with lots of hardware. For Fall 16, the trend for sweaters is to have either a drape silhouette or cocoon shape. Sweaters are always in style, but you can update each season by changing up the fit and colour. I would go for something in classic black and additionally, a more trendy colour like muted gold.

As for accessories, this Fall I’m thinking about keeping it simple, mirroring my accessories in the same shades and colour palette as my clothing. I love that BENCH is on that wavelength, too. I found a cozy knit scarf that pairs perfectly with my other pieces and a cool, drawstring Nylon knapsack, in a complimentary tone. I’ve been using it for all my errands since I got it! It’s such a convenient casual bag, that looks good, too. Love Love Love it.

If you’re thinking about adding a bit of drama to your casual looks this Fall, BENCH has some really amazing pieces that can be mixed and matched, or worn alone. I love that their fabrics feel super luxe this season and the colour palettes pair well with a stronger aesthetic – something I plan on vibing with for a long time.
