Style Crush: Alicia Vikander

Style Crush: Alicia Vikander

Listen. If you don’t have a style icon or two that you look up to, copy their looks and/or love to hate then we can’t be friends. Ideally, I’d love to be your style icon but truthfully, I’m still trying to figure out what my own personal style is vis-a-vis my own style icons so I don’t think I’m ready to be your daydream – just yet. Having a style icon is a smart move, in my opinion. It helps you keep on track when shopping or deciding what to wear. Like, if Victoria Beckham wouldn’t be caught dead in lace then I’ve got no time for it, either.

I have many style icons. Sometimes I get bored with them or decide that we’re not aligned anymore, so I go back on the prowl. A recent search led me to Alicia Vikander. As Tracy Morgan would say, “these danishes is good, girl.” Like, I can’t sometimes with him – he kills me!

Alicia Vikander’s style also slays. First off, she dresses as though she gives zero fucks about it. The je ne sais quoi is an art she has mastered. Her hair, always seems to be undone (but done) if that makes sense. Like, it’s perfect. She wears little makeup but always has a youthful glow. And thanks to my main man, Nicolas Ghesquière, she’s always clad in Louis Vuitton.

Her clothes aren’t OTT (which I recently learned means: over the top). They are OOTD! Fuck, I love acronyms. I’m also promising to swear less, guys. Sorry! Anyways back to my Vikander Viking. Alicia’s style is simple and elegant but not minimalist, which I love, because I feel like I’m also simple when it comes to style but I hate minimalism. She plays more with textures and colour than she does with silhouettes or patterns. And she wears very little jewelry (like myself). She’ll easily wear a burnt terracotta knit dress with maybe a small pair of gold studs and a neutral shoe with maybe a little embellishment on the toe, a killer bag, and no makeup, no hairspray. To me, she is the epitome of those girls I used to admire on the Amalfi Coast who made summer look so glamorous in the way they’d tie a Missoni coverup.

To me, she possesses that thing that only few women are born with: chic. If you pair a picture of her on the red carpet beside someone like Eva Longoria, you’ll see that the latter just looks like a constructed barbie doll. Eva has gorgeous clothes, amazing shoes, bags, jewels, and the best makeup artists at her side, but she’ll never possess the effortless chic of Alicia Vikander.

Anyway, if you didn’t hear by now, I’m collaborating with L’Oreal Professionnel this year to help me grow out my blonde hair. As much as I love being blonde, I feel like my natural colour (ashy brown) would also be really nice on me – and a lot easier to maintain. Definitely inspired by Alicia Vikander in making this decision as well as some other girls in my “style icon” roster that rock their natural locks.

Who are your style icons? Leave me a comment below so we can exchange girl crushes!

I, too, have recently added Alicia to “my List”. In permanent residence is Nicole Richie, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, and Gwen Stefani. In rotation from the new order I am always watching Kendall Jenner (hate her or love her, I don’t care), Gigi Hadid and Willow and Jaden Smith.

:) Linda Rodin is a stylist from NYC. Her style/vibe is how I would imagine maybe Carrie Bradshaw’s character would have evolved into as she moved into her 60’s! Faboo!
