The No-Makeup Holiday Beauty Tutorial

The No-Makeup Holiday Beauty Tutorial

Let’s face it. Any sensible woman would want to look good without makeup. Thankfully, most of us don’t. Well, we might look admissible but a little bronzer never hurt nobody. And not to mention, doing your makeup when you actually have more than 30 seconds before you have to be out the door can be quite fun. I for one, love the art of le maquillage; and I’m forever trying new techniques and products like Tweezerman‘s new line of beauty tools to ironically achieve the look of not wearing any makeup at all.

Most of us know Tweezerman for their namesake beauty tool: tweezers! However, their product range extends far beyond the brow bringing their beauty expertise to the face, lashes, manicure and pedicure with a new set of professional quality tools. I got the chance to use the Tweezerman expert beauty tools to do my signature no-makeup makeup holiday look over the weekend and I’m sharing all my tips with you here so you, too, can arrive at your next holiday shindig looking like you woke up like this.

What I love about the Tweezerman philosophy is their professional approach to the entire product range. These aren’t just beauty tools for laypeople, this isn’t a diffusion line of the salon version. I’ve seen these exact same Tweezerman products used by makeup artists and aestheticians alike; it’s nice to know I can have that same high quality precision when I’m doing it myself at home. It’s like having a beauty secret weapon in my makeup drawer.

So, come join me in my newly re-conceptualized second-bedroom-cum-closet where I now get ready like a boss (I finally convinced my boyfriend that I needed to convert the guest room into my closet by forfeiting the walk-in in our bedroom to him and strategically leaving my shoes all around the house so he, too, would see the need for my very own shoe emporium). And let’s do our makeup and then look like we aren’t wearing any makeup at all.

My face approach:

I start with a clean face and apply my favourite moisturizer, followed by makeup primer (preferably one with a shimmer in it). I do all this with my fingers. Then I use the Tweezerman Brush iQ Finishing Contour Brush to blend in my tinted moisturizer and concealer. The dual fibre head is perfect for blending all foundations and concealers as well as powder blushes. I set everything with a setting powder using the Tweezerman Brush iQ Powder Brush, which creates an even finish.

Next, I apply in this order: bronzer, blush and highlighter. I can go back to my Finishing Contour Brush for the bronzer application under the cheekbone, temple and jawline. Then I use the Tweezerman Brush iQ Blush Brush to apply a small amount of colour to the apples of my cheeks. Lastly, I use the Finishing Contour Brush to apply highlighter down the bridge of my nose, my cheekbones, the area above my lip, brows and forehead. It’s called strobing.

Eyes:

So, now that my face is on fleek and basically looks like just a healthy version of my natural skin, I move to the eyes. Here I pluck any stray hairs using the legendary Tweezerman Classic Slant Tweezer. The perfectly aligned, hand-filed tip grab every hair, every time. This really is the best tweezer in the world.

After that, I just brush out my brows and fill them in using the Tweezerman Brow Brush that works with both gels and powders to give a feathered effect as well as definition thanks to its slanted shape. It’s one of the best brow brushes I’ve tried.

Lastly, no girl should ever apply mascara or leave the house without curling her lashes. At $17.99 the Tweezerman Classic Lash Curler is amazing value and works just as good as the more expensive curlers on the market – and they give you way more silicon lash pad replacements than some other brands. Love it. Add a dollop of mascara to both the top and bottom lids and you should look like a deer in the headlights, but pretty.

Lips:

Seriously, I just apply a quick layer of concealer to my lips. Sometimes I add another nude lipstick on top and other times I just put some clear gloss over and go. I love a nude lip. It’s the quintessential finish to creating the no-makeup look.

The Tweezerman range of beauty tools are all available at London Drugs (the brushes) Shoppers Drug Mart (the lash curler and tweezers) and online at www.Tweezerman.ca
