Wednesday night at the tents is formally known as Mimran night. It’s like the Pope has landed or something when Joe and Kim arrive backstage. Pandemonium. All I want to know is: do Joe and I use the same self-tanner or what?
Pink Tartan Fall 14 was inspired by Richard Avedon and Diana Vreeland’s “The Great Caravan” editorial for Vogue, October 1966. The shoot featured model Veruschka (she is the same girl on the iconic cover of Michelangelo Antonioni’s Blow-Up) in luscious furs and culottes. Think Dora the Explorer, only chic.
On the runway, this aesthetic was palpable in fur stoles, grandiose outerwear (yet another quilted duvet coat à la Margiela x H&M), and of course, fur hoods and culottes. It was all very opulent, which veered slightly from Pink Tartan’s preppy-chic repertoire – but in a good way. Paired with the duvet, André Courrèges Eskimo sunglasses were a tip o’ the hat to the 1960s, albeit politically incorrect. Should you want to purchase a pair of these rare vintage shades, I found a pair on Etsy selling for $635.39 CAD or your firstborn child.
Here are some of my favourite looks from the collection. All photography by George Pimentel.
