10 Things About Me

10 Things About Me

So I recently saw my fave Danish blogger, www.thefine.dk, post a Q&A about herself on her blog. Fun facts, secrets, confessions, etc, and I thought it would be a fun thing to try on my own blog. I remember when blogging used to be super personal, almost like a diary you would write and then send out into the world, not knowing who – if anyone – would read it. Now, blogging has become so standardized, I mean, you can’t even swear anymore for fuck’s sake. I think every time I drop an F-bomb, I lose a gig.

But you know, I don’t care about any of that stuff too much. I want to appeal to people and seem professional – but at what point do you go from “appealing” to being an artificial crock of shit? That’s why I like to keep it real. It gives me a reality check to stay humble and realize that it’s JUST blogging, not saving lives, and no, I don’t need to have a driver with three bottles of room temperature Evian water waiting to take me to the airport in order for a press trip to be worth my time. Fiji water is just as good.

You see? Sarcasm and making fun of myself is how I get through life. Otherwise I think I would take everything way too seriously and just spend my days like the Michael Jordan crybaby face.

OK here are some facts about me:

I am an extremely sensitive person so much so that I have to stop myself from feeling sometimes because I am afraid of how deeply I can feel. Especially feeling the pain of others. I can feel everything that other people feel. I’m like a sponge.

I am a perfectionist to the point of being way too critical of myself and others. This is something I’m most ashamed of.

I love carbs. I will never ever give them up no matter what. Pizza, pasta and bread for life.

I used to be in a famous children’s choir when I was growing up and went on tour with them to Australia and New Zealand when I was 12 years old.

I sing, play piano and dance. Piano is my stress reliever, I could play and sing for hours without realizing the time go by. I love to write songs and even come up with cool jazzy covers of pop songs that I then forget the next time I play lol.

I don’t eat sugar. Well, I don’t like sugar and I try NOT to eat it because it doesn’t do anything for me. Whenever people have birthdays and they force me to eat the birthday cake, I feel like crying in pain. I hate birthday cake.

I never know what to wear. I always feel like my closet hates me and vice versa. I always feel like I make the worst shopping decisions in terms of what I need to spend my money on. I get very depressed over it.

I have a collection of Gucci bags (I’ve sold a few throughout the years) but none of them are in style anymore thanks to Alessandro Michele.

I’m very self-conscious about my eyes. I used to have strabismus for 26 years – people thought I had a lazy eye and I always tilt my head to the left to compensate for double vision. I had surgery a few years ago to correct the eye muscles but my head still tilts out of habit. But I’ve learned to accept myself and if anyone makes fun of me I can easily let it slide because I’ve built up a tough skin.

I have psoriasis under my nails and they grow weird because of it. It’s been 5 years and I hate it! It’s so painful but there is no cure. At least it’s an excuse to have a manicure. I love getting my nails done it’s my favourite thing.

I love to read historical non-fictions, autobiographies and mystery novels. I am obsessed with the Russian monarchy, the Roman Empire and the turn of the century. I love the 60s. And I have a collection of Agatha Christie vintage novels published in the 40s and 50s. I buy them at used book stores.

I prefer used books to new books. I love their story and always wonder about their previous owners.

I have a M.A. in Film Studies but my taste in television is as trashy as it gets. I’m obsessed with Real Housewives and if I could be anyone on the show it would be Carole Radziwill. I’m obsessed with her.

I drink way too much wine. And I love a good dirty gin martini with lots of olives. I hate Veuve Clicquot it tastes like cat pee to me, and will only drink Laurent Perrier Cuvée Rosé champagne.

I am so messy it’s embarrassing. I love an organized chaos of beautiful things. I’m not a minimalist however there is one that exist inside me that stops me from taking my messiness to the point of being a hoarder.

I am a hopeless romantic and love love but only secretly. I wouldn’t like make a public declaration of love for anyone, I’m more like at home locked up in my room listening to Coldplay, crying and writing love poems.

I hate surprises. Don’t fucking pull that shit on me I will hate you for life. I need to know what we are doing, where we are going and how I should dress at all times.

Once I get into the dolce vita mode, it’s hard for me to get back to work. And vice versa, when I’m working, it’s so hard for me to stop and relax. I need to work on my work-life balance but I’m taking it easier this year because life is too short.

I hate thinking about time and space. They are huge concepts that freak me out, every time I try to grasp the idea of infinity I get anxiety and a sharp pain in my chest.

I love animals and I hate to see them suffer. I used to be a vegan because of that but I feel like we cannot escape the suffering of neither animals nor humans in the world. When I think about it, I could cry. I love to rescue animals and will take the one with the most problems, defects and handicaps. They need the most love and it breaks my heart to see them judged or cast aside because of something they can’t help.

I don’t like needy people who can’t do anything for themselves and are super dependent on others because they are lazy, irresponsible or immature.

I never put restrictions on my friends and get very angry when people restrict my every day life for their own selfish needs. I think everyone should be able to do whatever they want, when they want and how they want. If you don’t like it, move along. We should be friends because we have fun together, respect each other and have the same outlook on life – not because we can control each other.

Ok anything else you guys want to know about me? Leave a comment at the bottom of the page and I will try to answer all your questions the next time I do a little Q&A.

Happy Friday!

xoxo J

Love this! I feel like we have similar taste in books. Have you read the Life and Times of Josephine B. by Sandra Gulland? It’s a factionalized account of the life of Josephine Bonaparte. So good!

Wow -I’ve never ever read anyone’s bio that is so similar to my own!!!
So crazy …. Even down to the skin conditions and Stabismus, which I also corrected with surgery. I’ll have a permanent tilt though because I tilted my head to the right for 29-years. You can see the curvature in X-rays…. Oh well
Cheers on a great site :-)

No way! Is that crazy or what? I totally understand what you’ve gone through over the years when people look at you weird because your eyes aren’t aligned or you tilt your head. I’m happy I got the surgery but I’m also happy to accept my body the way that it is.

Thanks so much for sharing that with me. It’s nice to know we’re not alone :)

      xoxo J
