A girl with a strong sensibility for love can fall prey to boys with charm, Jane Austen novels and, the idea of romance. Romance, although it is often attributed to the intimate love between two willing individuals (sometimes one unrequited, sadly); it is not restricted to this type of love. For instance, when I walk into my favourite clothing boutique, many new arrivals try to romance me. They often succeed. And isn’t it true that when you put on a beautiful new dress you feel that much more amazing about yourself and that much more ready for the other kind of romance?
I do.
Jeans, shoes and bags sometimes do it for me, but there is nothing quite like putting on the right dress. Perhaps it’s an evolutionary psychology engrained in females no matter how latent that gives us this Cinderella complex: the ability to fall in love with the right dress. Which, may be one and the same as falling in love because we’re in the right dress. Fairy tales are always twofold. Location: the BCBGMAXAZRIA boutique at Yorkdale Mall. The independent variable? One Hervé Léger dress. (Well, in this case three, because I’m a polygamist!)
Incidentally, if you’re looking to fall in love with a Hervé Léger dress and you live in Canada, the BCBGMAXAZRIA boutique in Yorkdale Shopping Mall is the only location in Canada to hold the Hervé Léger by Max Azria collection.
Look 1: Be My Valentine Dinner and a Movie, Hold the Netflix.
This cinnamon heart-red, strapless A-line dress has a sweetheart neckline and a drop-waist that is flattering even on a pear-shape like myself. Hervé Léger dresses are known for their bandage fabric; it moulds to the body while giving you a figure like no Soul Cycle class can. Don’t I look exactly like the dream date you’d want to pick up on Valentine’s Day? I’m only a cat lady when it comes to my bags, promise!
Look 2: Soirée, n’importe ou! AKA Anything, Anywhere.
The sister of n’importe quoi (anything) is n’importe ou (anywhere), and that’s exactly where this floor-length gown will take you when you’re ready to soirée. My favourite part about this dress is the soft, trumpet cut with a beautiful laser-cut pattern that wraps around the hemline, mirroring the pretty detail around the waist and décolletage. This dress loves curves and creates the perfect hourglass shape. I almost fell in love with myself à la Yezzus when I put this dress on.
Look 3: V-Day is Just Another Excuse to Par-tay.
Whether you’re flying solo or riding in tandem, this zig-zag patterned Resort 2015 dress is not for the conservative lover. Inspired by hot nights in Rio, the cut-out panels along the obliques were made for dancing all night long and I strongly recommend a choker necklace to accentuate the glam-slash-fifty-shades factor. Romance is probably too lukewarm a word to describe what this dress can do for you…
