As more and more fashion designers are imbuing sportswear with luxury (see Stella and Adidas ongoing collabo) and vice versa as is the case with Tomas Maier’s Spring collection for Bottega Veneta, I feel we should amend Nike co-founder, Bill Bowerman’s “If you have a body you’re an athlete” quote and change it to say: “If you have a closet you’re an athlete.” Now more than ever the clothes we wear to workout in are chosen with the same aesthetic predilection as the thousand dollar designer handbag we saved three months salary for.
As for the Pedro Lourenço x Nike capsule collection, the sportswear juggernaut enlisted the Brazilian fashion designer to create clothes that infuse function with beauty. Extra breathability is marked by blush and black gradient flocking. Blush and black – as a former recreational ballerina who thankfully chose having presentable feet over pointe shoes at the tender age of twelve, this colour palette speaks to me.
The lightweight woven training jacket I’m wearing has the softest Dri-FIT satin hood, with laser perforations under the arms and back that all compliment the matte, ripstop fabric in blush nude. I paired it with the Dri-FIT woven shorts that feature internal Nike Pro shorts layered underneath the main body made up of two Dri-FIT materials for function, sweat-repelling and of course, style. Both of these pieces are available now at NikeLab stores around the world and online here.
