Tapeworm and Chill

Tapeworm and Chill

If you’ve been following me on Snapchat you’ll know that I’ve been quite ill the past little while. Not that I want to air my “real life” on the blog, but for the sake of the ensuing Snaps, you should all know that I may or may not have a parasite living in my intestines, feeding off me, one bowl of congee at a time.

I’ll stop there.

Anyway, it’s occurred to me that I’ve been burning the candle at both ends lately and so I’m prescribing myself a healthy dose of yoga and vintage shopping this weekend. So, I thought I’d share some of my favourite poses and boutiques with you guys just in case you, too, have a worm dancing the jig in your entrails.

My favourite type of yoga is hot yoga. Call it Bikram (or don’t since the lawsuit), call it Moksha, call it Vinyasa Flow. Hot yoga isn’t pedestrian yoga. If you’ve been following me for a while you’ll know that I absolutely love this type of yoga practise. You sweat out all the toxins, get super-toned, lose water weight and it’s also a mental battle the entire time. Man vs. Mat, so to speak. I love practising hot yoga at GoodLife Fitness – just look for the YogaFit Sweat classes, and drink plenty of water. (Sometimes I slip an Emergen-C into my water bottle for extra hydration).

Before the class even starts, I’m usually already in my happy zone. I push all my worries aside, leaving them and my iPhone at the door. The only problem is, I can’t seem to find chic hot yoga clothes anywhere! Typically the practise calls for multi-coloured jungle pattern swimsuit-like shorts and bra tops. The closest I’ve come to cool hot yoga clothing is YogaBela’s comic book collection, but even then it’s a far cry from Roy Lichtenstein to even be that cool.

Good thing I can always rely on a round of vintage shopping to console myself when my yoga shorts make my eyes bleed. My favourite place to do vintage shopping is The Cat’s Meow on Avenue Rd. Seriously, this place is like a fashion museum. From YSL plaid reefers to Chanel couture, you cannot ever leave empty-handed, or at least I can’t. But plan to spend the big bucks as this is not a thrift store by any stretch of the imagination.

If I’m looking for a mix of high and low vintage, though, I usually go to I Miss You Vintage on Ossington. In between Missoni sweaters you’ll find a plethora of well-priced vintage bags and beaded dresses that are so so much fun. I love the backroom the most so head there upon arrival.

69 Vintage is also a great place for on-trend items from the past – like fringe suede jackets and such. I also love me a good walk through Kensington Market (although I can’t remember any of the store names) it’s like vintage row for thrifters. One store after another. And lastly, sometimes you find vintage in the weirdest places like my favourite $12 gold choker that I picked up at Of Things Past, a furniture consignment store, that must also dabble in estate sales or someone left it in an armour. Anyways, another man’s trash is my treasure.

This weekend I plan on annihilating the worms inside my belly, do some hot yoga and go vintage shopping until I drop (hopefully in that order).

Happy Weekend! (Wait, it’s only Thursday!!!!!)

Eeek! Oh my! Feel better. You’re a braver woman than I. I would be drinking until I forgot that something was moving around inside of me–which would probably take a lotttt of cocktails.

Drink some Chinese Herbal stuff to feel better. Make sure the sushi you eat is fresh tool. I always drink ginger, lemon, honey tea for everything from flu to whatever sickness I feel.
