My Style | If it’s Yellow Let it Mellow

My Style | If it’s Yellow Let it Mellow

Ever since Louis Vuitton came out with the taxi cab yellow, Chic on a Bridge ad campaign for the Epi Leather Alma bag last Spring, I’ve reinstated yellow into my closet. Yellow really is an underrated colour because, or at least I think, it’s always likened to unsightly animals: “OMG, she looks like Big Bird,” or “I’m gonna look like a bumble bee if I wear that yellow top” and so on and so forth.

However, I’ve always really liked yellow. Not only is it my favourite Cold Play song (holler!) but it’s the perfect colour to wear in the summer. A yellow sundress, yellow bikini, yellow handbag – you get where I’m going with this. Even the stars are generally depicted yellow when 5 year-olds draw them.

Yellow is also synonymous with the caution sign – so proceed with caution when attempting to wear yellow. Firstly, you should match the yellow with your skin tone. Paler yellow for paler skin tones. Except mustard. Everyone can wear mustard yellow. Lemon yellow is best in the summertime.

Here’s a little guide to wearing yellow by Madame Dariaux:

Pale Yellow is best worn with the following secondary colours: Black, navy, brown and grey.

Golden Yellow is best worn with the following secondary colours: Black, white  and brow,

Lemon Yellow is best worn with the following secondary colours: Black, white, navy, dark green, pale pink, and orange.

Did I do it correct? Who knows, she didn’t say anything about florals. But in the case of my lemon yellow coat and pale pink bag, I dare say I hit this nail on the head.

I love the look. It always amazes me how although yellow is a bright color, you can easily pair it with prints or other vivid colors without it looking “too much” !
I have a very similar one, and I think it just brightens up London’s gloomy days ! I like to pair it with simple jeans (like here http://www.manigazer.com/home/plum-yellow) and keep all the chic in the coat !

Can’t wait to see other ways you’ll rock it !

    xx, I.
