Let me preface this story by saying I’ve been wanting to cut my hair for the past year. But for whatever reason (namely, my boyfriend who adored my long hair) I only summoned the courage to do it now. Enlisting the expertise of Session Stylist, Anna Barseghian at Brennen Demelo Studio (obviously the same stylist who does my boyfriend’s hair lest he entrust my locks in anyone else’s bladed hands), she tailored a hairstyle to fit me perfectly – after all, Brennen Demelo is known in the industry as the place to go for unique, fashion forward hairstyles.
When going from long to short it’s important to take into account several things. 1. Your hair type (if it’s curly or straight will affect the length) 2. Your lifestyle (I opted for no face framing layers because I want to put my hair back on race day) and 3. Your commitment to trimming (hair, especially short hair, grows fast so in two weeks time you could have a totally different hairstyle if it’s cut at the wrong length). All things considered, I decided to go for the collarbone length (and hopefully shorter the next time, right baby?).
Anna was simply amazing from start to finish. First off, she’s super uber cool like so effortlessly chic. When I suggested doing longer in the front, shorter in the back (cuz that’s what was in last time I had short hair) she was straight-up with me: “That’s dated.” She asked me to trust her; a blunt cut was the way to go. So I did.
She added a few layers around the ends to “give it texture,” that way when I style my hair, it doesn’t fall in one big clump but in pieces. It’s all very Miroslava Duma and I couldn’t be happier.
We finish the style by running a flat iron through it and spraying this phenomenal L’Oreal product called: Next Day Hair, giving it lots of texture and a bit of grip.
I absolutely LOVE my new hairstyle – it’s fresh and light and so so chic.
Thanks so much to Anna Barseghian @anna_barseghian and Brennen Demelo Studio for transforming me from long to short and thanks to Alexander Liang for composing this lovely little video (and for letting me cut my hair). XOXO
