My favourite season to shop for is Fall. The coats, the knits, the boots, and – the white skirt? But of course! Whoever invented the ‘no white after labour day’ rule was certainly missing a few screws. This Fall season, whites figured heavily on the runways (have you seen the Ralph Lauren white-out campaign?) and although wearing it head-to-toe is probably impractical for those Monday morning subway rides (I swear there’s a patina of grit covering every surface of public transit) you shouldn’t be afraid to incorporate a splash of white into your colder weather looks.
One of the best pieces I’ve seen is this pleated skirt from Topshop as it manages to exude femininity while being very sporty. Hence, I paired it with slip-on sneakers (in a gingham punch, no less) or I could’ve done this look with heels. Add a sweatshirt (always add a sweatshirt) and a tailored overcoat to give the look a masculine edge. Sometimes pulling disparate pieces together in an outfit is all you need to achieve that ‘chic’ factor everyone is on the lookout for. What? Don’t tell me you weren’t looking for chic when you came here!
I’m excited about this outfit for more reasons than simply demonstrating my superior ability to dress myself – I’ve put it together to announce my upcoming collaboration with Topshop in Vancouver as they open their newest location at the Richmond Centre Hudson’s Bay. I’ll be there next week to co-host the grand opening party on Saturday, October 4th from 10am to 2pm, meeting and greeting with all you Topshop lovers (and signing autographs – jks).
